In the Haute-Savoie department, at the foot of Mont-Blanc and close to Switzerland and Italy, Chamonix-Mont-Blanc is a mythical place with an international reputation. In 1741, two Englishmen, William Windham and Richard Pococke, explored the Chamonix valley and its glaciers. From there, the resort flourished, with the massive arrival of mountaineers and explorers, the inauguration of the railroad, the appearance of luxury hotels, the development of cable cars, and so on. Then, in 1924, Chamonix became the host of the first Winter Olympics. Since then, the resort has constantly reinvented itself, becoming a paradise for winter sports enthusiasts from all horizons.
