Owners of the prestigious real estate agency "Chamonix Argentière Sotheby's International Realty", Sonia and Lionel Thomas have opened a second address, "Chamonix Argentière Sotheby's International Realty", in 2022.
Our agency is located in the very heart of the village of Argentière, and its warm, welcoming decor evokes the comforting atmosphere of a private chalet lounge.
Our team of eight consultants is divided between our two branches. These experts are highly specialized in real estate transactions, and are also fluent in several languages, including English, Swedish and Italian.
We offer a variety of properties in the Chamonix valley, including apartments and mountain chalets, as well as restored historic properties such as 18th-century farmhouses and country houses.
The Argentière real estate market
The Argentière real estate market is growing steadily. The clientele is increasingly younger, with larger budgets, and international buyers are emerging.
Most of our customers are looking for a second home ideally located close to a ski resort, such as the Grands Montets ski area in Argentière. The charming mountain hamlet of La Tour is also very popular. The number of rooms is an important criterion in their decision, as it enables them to welcome family and friends during their stays in the mountains.
Our clientele is generally Scandinavian, Swedish, Finnish, Dutch, Belgian, Luxembourgish, American (French residents or expatriates), Italian and Swiss. They are skiers who have a strong affinity with the upper Chamonix valley because of its family atmosphere.
Argentière: history and heritage
L'Argentière-la-Bessée (administrative name of Argentière) is famous for its silver mine, which has been in operation since the Middle Ages.
One man, Gilbert Planche, a young engineer from Lyon, was to contribute to its development. In 1888, he decided to set up a hydroelectricity and aluminum plant. Together with the mayor of the time, Pierre Alexis Alliey, he transformed the town. The riverbanks were developed, workers' housing estates were built, and the famous Hermès clock was erected in 1922.
Sports tourism and the organization of major sporting events gave the town a new lease of life. Today, Chamonix's ultra-trail is held once a year. The diversity of sporting activities on offer in the Chamonix valley makes Argentière a sportsman's paradise. A multitude of hiking trails are available to visitors who want to enjoy the high mountains. Mountaineering enthusiasts can explore glaciers or climb Mont Blanc.
Beyond Argentière, the region offers an unrivalled wealth of heritage: ideally located both near the Swiss Lake District and the lakes of the Rhône-Alpes region. Combining the pleasures of mountain and water sports, the lucky tourist can reach Lake Annecy in 1 h.
Argentière offers a selection of luxury hotels, one of the most renowned of which is the "Les Grands Montets" hotel. Located in the heart of the resort, this establishment offers refined accommodation and top-of-the-range services to satisfy the most demanding travelers.
Renowned for its professionalism and the excellence of its services, Sotheby's International Realty was one of the first networks to set up in the Chamonix valley. Today, it represents a guarantee of quality and confidence for sellers and buyers. We offer our customers the benefit of our in-depth knowledge of the local heritage and our expertise to help you realize your real estate project.
