Beaujolais - its region and its real estate market

Beaujolais - its region and its real estate market

Between Lyon to the south and Mâcon to the north, in Greater Burgundy, the Beaujolais region is a wine-growing area whose name evokes the wine it bears. Renowned the world over for its vineyards, Beaujolais also attracts visitors for the beauty of its landscapes and its rich cultural heritage.

Vines have been cultivated in Beaujolais since Roman times, but it was only in the Middle Ages, under the influential barons of the Sires de Beaujeu, that the region really took off. In 1937, the region saw the birth of its first appellations d'origine contrôlée, and in 1951, Beaujolais Nouveau made its appearance, achieving worldwide success. Today, Beaujolais is without doubt one of the most renowned wine appellations in the world.

Certain places are must-sees in Beaujolais, notably Villefranche-sur-Saône, its capital, with its mansions, ramparts and Renaissance-style houses. And don't miss the medieval village of Oingt, with its golden stones, keep tower, stone houses and fortified gate. Or the medieval château of Jarnioux with its six towers and, of course, the vineyards scattered throughout the region. Every year, the assets of the Beaujolais region attract numerous international celebrities who come to stay or buy a home here.

Thanks to its natural assets, Beaujolais is a veritable paradise for nature lovers, with its mid-mountain landscapes, forests and Lac des Sapins. In recognition of this exceptional natural heritage, the region was awarded the UNESCO Global Geopark label in 2018. For lovers of wine and gastronomy, the Wine Route is a must, with 140 km of vineyards to discover. The region also offers remarkable culinary experiences, with wine-tasting workshops, oenology courses and gourmet restaurants.

The region and its real estate market

The Beaujolais region, with its charming towns and villages, is highly sought-after by luxury real estate buyers. Places like Villefranche-sur-Saône, Beaujeu, Alix, Val d'Oingt, Chazay-d'Azergues and Saint-Didier-sur-Beaujeu are particularly coveted.

The most sought-after luxury properties are wine estates, prestigious gilded stone houses, historic residences, exceptional properties, luxury apartments and châteaux. A naturally preserved, peaceful exterior is a commonly requested criterion.
