Evian-les-Bains (Auvergne Rhône Alpes)

Lake Geneva - its region and its real estate market
Located in the Haute-Savoie department, close to Switzerland and on the southern shore of Lake Geneva, Évian-les-Bains is known the world over for its spa and mineral water. With its postcard-perfect scenery and privileged geographical location, the town is highly acclaimed for the quality of life it offers.
In the past, Évian was part of the province of Chablais, dependent on the Duchy of Savoy. It was in 1790 that the virtues of Évian's mineral water were discovered by the Marquis de Lessert. The miraculous water, renowned for its medicinal properties, was then prescribed by doctors. In 1824, the first spa was built, ushering in a major boom for Evian. The town became known the world over for its water and thermal cures, a success story that continues to this day.
As well as being an internationally prestigious spa, Évian tells its own story through its buildings, its Belle Époque villas and its various architectural styles. The Cachat spring, the Jardins de l'Eau, the Palais Lumière and the Villa Lumière are just some of the treasures to be discovered. Thanks to its many attractions, the city has welcomed kings such as Edward VII, George V and Egypt's King Farouk, as well as celebrities such as Marcel Proust, Anna de Noailles and François Mitterrand.
Whatever the time of year, Evian offers a myriad of activities. In winter, the ski resorts of the Haute-Savoie region offer the joys of winter sports. In summer, Lake Geneva offers a multitude of aquatic activities or simply a place to relax in the sun. A variety of hiking and cycling trails invite you to discover Evian and the surrounding region. The town is also lively all year round, with its thermal baths, museums, casino, golf course, numerous gourmet restaurants, luxury boutiques and more.
