Presentation of the Gordes agency
The Provence-Luberon-Gordes agency was set up in 2004 in Gordes, one of France's most beautiful villages. It joined the Sotheby's International Realty network in 2007. Opposite the French palace “La Bastide de Gordes”, the agency is located at an altitude of 400 meters, offering customers an exceptional view of the Calavon valley and the Lubéron mountains.
The agency is decorated with an elegant design that creates a warm atmosphere. Around the fireplace, you can share a cup of coffee with customers in a setting that gives the impression of being “at home”, reflecting the agency's philosophy.
The team, made up of Pascal Danneau, manager of the Gordes and Mazan branches, and Léo Bertrand, is bilingual. Thanks to their solid training and in-depth experience in the field, they are able to assist customers in the best possible conditions.
The agency is an expert in seasonal rentals, with a unique portfolio of properties ranging from Provencal houses and mas, to old farmhouses and bergeries, to more recent stone houses. Notable transactions include the sale of a 650 m2 rural property valued at 12 million euros in 2021.
In addition, the agency maintains privileged links with major agencies in the Sotheby's International Realty network in Brittany, Corsica, the Côte d'Azur and Paris.
The Gordes real estate market
A popular destination the world over, Provence enjoys a strong appeal in the real estate sector, from both French and foreign customers. The real estate market is moving upmarket, with prices per square meter reaching 11,000 euros for some properties. With its remarkable assets, Gordes has become the capital of Provence.
Before the health crisis, the clientele was essentially foreign, but today the majority is French. In the second-home market, they include Singaporeans, Mexicans, Americans, Dutch, Swiss and Belgians. In the remarkable Luberon region, the most popular towns are Ménerbes, Roussillon, Bonnieux and Lacoste.
Trends fluctuate: customers may be looking for a large farmhouse with a large plot of land far from the villages, or for proximity to the village so they can walk to the restaurant or café. Often, customers are looking for a smaller house, with four bedrooms and a swimming pool to cool off in summer.
Sotheby's International Realty's expertise and professionalism bring real added value to the agency. The teams guarantee a secure transaction, representing a trusted local relay for foreign customers. They collaborate with the Sotheby's Auction subsidiary to present properties for auction, and the quality of this unique service sets us apart from the competition.
Gordes: History and heritage
Situated on a rocky promontory in the Monts de Vaucluse, Gordes overlooks the plain and the Calavon valley. In the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries, the people of Gordes farmed the land under often difficult conditions. The surviving oil mills, silk spinning mills and shoemaking workshops bear witness to the economy of the time.
The village was protected by the Château de Gordes, built between the 11th and 16th centuries and classified as a historic monument in 1931. In the 1970s, Hungarian Op Art master Vasarely settled here, followed by Flemish artist Pol Mara at the end of the 20th century. It remains a cultural Mecca promoting art.
It's worth visiting the upper part of the village, where you'll find the unmissable Saint-Firmin church and Gordes' restaurants and shops. The famous hilltop villages
were originally built to protect themselves from barbarian attacks in the 5th century.
In the 1930s, the development of the car and paid vacations contributed to the village's appeal. In the 50s, the village was frequented by many artists: Deyrolle, Chagall, Poliakoff, Isis and Willy Ronis, among others. Indeed, the exceptional light found in Provence attracted all kinds of artists.
There's a real desire to preserve the village's cultural heritage and preserve its dreamy landscapes. One of the region's assets is its connectivity to major French cities: located 2h40 from Paris by TGV, close to Marseille international airport, 50 minutes from the freeway, and not far from Saint-Tropez or Lyon by car.
It brings a slower, more authentic Provencal lifestyle to an extremely well-preserved environment, where peace and quiet reign. In the Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon, there are no limits to running, mountain biking and hiking.
Following in the footsteps of the famous chef Genty Pantaly, Gordes offers fine dining and a plethora of places to dine, lunch, drink or party. Pierre Gagnaire's gastronomic restaurant Pèir offers breathtaking views over the valley. Chef Jean-François Piège has opened Clover Gordes, in collaboration with the Les Airelles group. Awarded 3 Michelin stars, the Provencal palace combines grilled or roasted meat dishes with vegetarian cuisine.
Thanks to the quality of its services, the Sotheby's International Realty network is a powerful sales vector. The teams have in-depth knowledge of the local market and are able to assist customers in France or abroad.
